How to Use MineralBids as a Buyer
Welcome to MineralBids, a curated marketplace for mineral specimens, bringing together collectors and trusted vendors from around the world.
This guide explains how auctions and Buy Now listings work, how payments are handled, and when to contact vendors or MineralBids. We strongly recommend reading this before placing bids or making purchases.
How to Pay for Won Auctions
As soon as an auction ends, your won items appear in Won Auctions, available at the top of the site (user menu).
Add all items won from the same vendor to your cart and complete checkout.
When purchasing multiple items from the same vendor, shipping is automatically combined – no need to contact the vendor.
Buying on MineralBids
MineralBids offers two ways to purchase specimens:
Auctions
Each auction listing represents a single physical specimen (or a clearly defined group of specimens).
Auctions run for a fixed duration and end automatically.
The highest bidder at the end of the auction wins.
All bids are binding.
Buy Now (Fixed Price)
Buy Now listings are immediate purchases at a fixed price.
Each specimen is unique and sold once only.
Once a Buy Now item is sold, it is marked as Sold and cannot be purchased again.

Payments & Timing (Important)
- All payments are made securely through MineralBids.
When you place a winning bid or complete a Buy Now purchase, you pay MineralBids directly.
MineralBids then pays the vendor on your behalf after the order is completed.
This payment flow ensures a consistent, secure transaction process for all buyers and vendors.
Winning bids and Buy Now purchases must be paid promptly.
Please avoid unnecessary payment delays — timely payment ensures smooth shipping and fair trading for vendors.
About delayed payments & combined shipping
Some buyers delay payment because they plan to purchase additional items from the same vendor and hope to combine shipping. We now have a BETA feature called “Open Box Shipping” to address such situations.
Please note:
Payment is required for each order, immediately after it is placed (we may allow some days to pass, depending on each case).
Items won within the same auction from the same vendor may have shipping combined automatically, where applicable.
If you win items in different auctions (different auction slots), payment — including shipping — must be completed separately for each auction. Our new, beta, open-box feature solves the issue of re-charging full shipping for follow-up orders.
If Open-Box is not available on the site and if a buyer and vendor mutually agree to combine shipping across multiple auctions:
the buyer must still pay normally through MineralBids for each auction
the vendor may later refund any excess shipping cost directly, if they choose to do so
This rule ensures auctions close cleanly and vendors can ship orders without delays.

Shipping & Responsibility
Vendors are responsible for their own listings, including:
- accurate descriptions
- proper packaging
- timely shipping
- communication regarding the order
- Shipping costs, origin, and methods are clearly stated on each listing.
Before bidding or purchasing, buyers are strongly encouraged to review the Shipping information available in the site footer, where detailed rules and examples are explained.
📦 Open Box Shipping — BETA Feature
Open Box Shipping is a new, automated feature and is currently in BETA.
It has been developed specifically for MineralBids to allow combined shipping across multiple orders from the same vendor, without manual coordination.
Because this feature is new in live use, we may temporarily disable it if issues affecting orders or shipping accuracy are identified.
Our priority is correct payments, correct shipping, and a smooth experience for both buyers and vendors.
🧑💼 Open Box Shipping — Information for Buyers
What Open Box Shipping is
Open Box Shipping allows you to place multiple paid orders from the same vendor and have them shipped together at a later time.
Each order is a normal, fully paid order.
Open Box affects shipping only, not payment.
How it works
You place an order and select “Keep Open Box” at checkout.
You pay for the order in full, including shipping.
The vendor holds the order and does not ship it yet.
You can place additional orders from the same vendor while the box remains open.
For each additional order:
You pay for the item in full.
You are charged only the additional shipping cost, not the full shipping again.
When ready, you close the open box from your orders page.
The vendor ships all included items together and provides tracking.
Important clarifications
Every order must be paid in full at the time it is placed.
Open Box does not delay or combine payments, only shipping.
Additional orders inside an open box do not recharge full shipping, only the extra shipping needed for the combined parcel.
Open boxes are vendor-specific — items from different vendors are never mixed.
You can close your open box at any time.
This feature is currently in BETA and may be temporarily disabled if issues are detected.

Disputes & Mediation
MineralBids is a marketplace platform. While vendors are responsible for their own sales, we may step in to mediate if a dispute cannot be resolved fairly between buyer and seller, especially when platform rules are involved.
