Nothing like these have been found anywhere besides the Shijiangshan mine and not many cabinet sized pieces even made it out of China. We do sometimes see talk about ‘rare’ minerals that is really just marketing, but for this calling it rare is an understatement. Not many were found, and is was a one-off find, unique to this location.
They were found around 2021 (and others earlier) and were labelled as a tobermorite group mineral, it wasn’t until 2023 that they were studied and a new mineral was born! Besides this the Imayoushiite crystals on this piece on pink datolite globules are amazing for a species that has only been found in Japan and at Shijiangshan. This boulder did have a lot of calcite and on this piece some of the Datolite replaced the calcite giving it the bladed matrix appearance.
Shinichengite is a new mineral (IMA No. 2023-026) named after Chinese famous mineralogist and professor: Shi Ni Cheng.
